New TfL-funded unit cracking down on rogue HGVs to improve road safety

A new TfL-funded Commercial Vehicle Unit, run by the City of London Police, has launched a crack-down on dangerous vehicles in the City, stopping 136 vehicles and taking 95 dangerous vehicles off the road during its first month of operation.

The unit has been set up as part of a far-reaching effort to further improve road safety and take non-compliant and unsafe commercial vehicles off the roads. HGVs are involved in a disproportionate number of collisions, particularly those involving vulnerable road users, and Transport for London, and its policing partners, are committed to reducing these incidents through education and enforcement activity.

London moves closer to unsafe lorry ban

As London moves closer to the unsafe lorry ban, the first of 600 signs for the Safer Lorry Scheme have been erected across the city.

The scheme will require vehicles of more than 3.5 tonnes to be fitted with sideguards, along with Class V and Class VI mirrors giving the driver a better view of cyclists and pedestrians around their vehicle.

Reminder: FORS logo usage

FORS logo 2FORS would like to remind operators that if you are displaying the FORS logo you must use the version which incorporates your FORS ID number and your accreditation status of bronze, silver or gold. Usage of the generic logo without the FORS ID or which incorporates the Transport for London logo ceased on 30 April 2015.

Clients specifying FORS through contracts have been advised only to require FORS logos which includes the unique ID. Failure to display the right logo may result in rejection from site as it is a misrepresentation of the FORS logo, referenced in Section 2.7 of the FORS Standard.

North East FORS Practitioner Workshops

The North East Freight Partnership is continuing to provide a series of funded (free of charge to the attendee) FORS Practitioner workshops designed to assist operators improve the safety and efficiency of their operations.

These continue in 2015/16 and operators who deliver into the region are again being encouraged to sign up.

Please note these are reserved for operators that are based in or deliver in the region.
