Quattro (UK) Ltd – Increasing road safety and maintaining Gold

Quattro (UK) Ltd are based in Park Royal and supply vehicles for waste management, recycling, supplying aggregates and ready-mix to construction and utility contractors in West London and the surrounding areas. Eamon O’Loughlin, Managing Director, explains how Quattro (UK) Ltd have improved their road safety record by 7.4% and decreased transport related fines and charges by 54% through knowledge from FORS.

hshsQuattro (UK) Ltd were ISO 9001 & 14001 accredited prior to joining the FORS so we were prepared for our Bronze audit and passed it first time.

Once we were Bronze we really made the most of the benefits on offer, in particular the Safe Urban driving course and encouraging our drivers take advantage of the eLearning modules and our SHEQ Manager has recently completed three FORS Practitioner workshops.

At Quattro (UK) Ltd we are a very progressive company and demonstrate that we are market leaders in our field. Once we were Gold accredited we determined to show our commitments to the road safety and quickly progressed to Silver and Gold status.

  • Driver health and fitness review – The company introduced driver medical questionaires and health declaration form several years ago. We have also set up facilities for an external company to undertake medicals of our staff to ensure their wellbeing. We also encourage our staff to discuss any medical or mental health issues with management in the strictest confidence.
  • Strategy for recruiting drivers – Due to the current driver shortage we are always on the lookout for new talent that wish to pursue a career driving large goods vehicles.
  • Noise assessment – The company’s operating centres are located in designated industrial areas away from noise sensitive areas. Staff have been briefed on our FORS Gold standard noise assessment and we are actively looking at all areas of our operation to reduce noise pollution.
  • Modal shift and alternative vehicles – Our business has always operated to reduce the running of empty vehicles where practicable and are currently looking at a project to introduce gas powered vehicles to our fleet.

We intend to stay at the top of our profession by demonstrating our commitment to road safety, reducing our effect on the environment and continue to be market leaders in our industry.
