Lignacite is a family run company that has been around for 65 years. The company is firmly founded on old fashioned values without being stuck in the past. It strives to combine a keen eye for design, a love of materials and a view to the future. With a desire to meet modern day requirements and to use natural, recycled and renewable products, Lignacite has become the market leader in innovations for concrete and facing masonry blocks.
Lignacite has provided commodity building blocks for use in landmark buildings, such as The Gherkin and The Shard, the company also supplies blocks for general housing, offices, hospitals, schools, leisure and commercial developments. For Lignacite the use of carbonation technology is an extension to their long standing sustainability. As part of this, the company uses local sand and gravel for its blocks and up to 90% recycled waste materials, such as wood shavings, glass and shells in its products. Joanne Robinson, Sales & Logistics Controller is our elected Fuel and Emissions Champion and she explains how important FORS is to our Company.
We came across FORS when tendering for work across London and Cambridge. When we looked at the requirements and benefits of joining the scheme we saw that they fitted in perfectly with our ethos of improving safety whilst complementing our drive to improve fuel efficiency and reduce our environmental impact.
We take compliance and safety very seriously. FORS did help us by providing training and tools that improved the policies and procedures with our Bronze Accreditation.
The performance management toolkit really helped us set our targets for reducing our carbon footprint while improving our MPG. FORS has helped us improve our filing systems and procedures as well.
‘FORS has helped us achieve compliance and safety’
All our drivers have completed their Safe Urban Driving course which was funded by the Transport for London. We have also sent staff in the office on additional training such the OLAT Couse (Operators Licence Awareness Training) which has helped make all staff more confident and improve their understanding of FORS and how important it is the company.
‘We improved our MPG across the whole Fleet in the past 12 months’
We have managed to increase our MPG across the fleet over the past 12 months which also meant we reduced our Co2 too. We also didn’t receive any Parking Fines or charges and didn’t have any accidents in the past 2 years

We have also managed to make a significant saving by reducing our fuel usage and improving our MPG.
