Marshalls are one of the largest suppliers of hard landscaping materials to the construction sector. Guy Ripley Northern Regional logistics and fleet manager explains the journey to winning the CILT 2015 award for Safety..
When embarking on a major fleet renewal and expansion we realised through our membership of FORS that we needed to incorporate some major changes to our vehicle specification to ensure the safety of our employee’s and vulnerable road users as well as meeting the needs of our customers.’
All our in house fleet of 172 vehicles are now fitted with 360 degree camera systems, nearside
proximity sensors and audible turn left alarms, as well as safer means for the driver to access and egress the trailer .Membership of FORS as well as being CLOCS champions meant we were able to take into account the needs of vulnerable road users when specifying the new vehicles.
Our application for FORS Gold in Jan 2015 had focused on the Safe Urban Driver training available through FORS membership, we carried on with this during 2015 and in addition improved our vehicle specification to ensure all drivers had the correct tools for the job.

In addition to attending SUD courses we have sent 68 drivers on Work Related Road Risk courses and the national rollout of FORS has meant we can access training nationwide.
