Guidance on working safely during coronavirus in or from a vehicle

Guidance on working safely during coronavirus in or from a vehicle

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy has published guidance for people who work in or from vehicles, including couriers, mobile workers, lorry drivers, on-site transit and work vehicles, field forces and similar.

The guidance will help employers, employees and the self-employed in the UK understand how to safely continue, or restart, operations during the coronavirus pandemic. It also provides mitigation measures to minimise the risk of transmission where it is not possible to avoid multiple occupancy vehicles and where workers have no alternative but to work within 2 metres. These measures include using fixed pairing system for teams, sitting side-by-side not face-to-face, and increasing ventilation where possible.

Topics covered in the guidance are:

  • Managing risks
  • Who should go to work
  • Social distancing at work
  • Managing customers, visitors and contractors
  • Safety measures when carrying out deliveries and collections
  • Cleaning the workplace
  • PPE and face coverings
  • Workforce management
  • Inbound and outbound goods
