New Low Emission Zone retrofit grace period

New Low Emission Zone retrofit grace period

New and tougher standards are coming into effect for London’s Low Emission Zone (LEZ). From 1 March, heavy vehicles including lorries, buses, coaches and specialist vehicles will need to meet Euro VI emissions standards or pay a daily charge to drive within the Greater London area.

One option for meeting the new standard, where appropriate solutions are available, is to retrofit emissions reduction technology. Transport for London (TfL) has responded to the concerns of some operators about getting such retrofits installed now in time for 1 March.

TfL has announced details of a three-month grace period for vehicles that have a confirmed booking with a CVRAS-approved fitter for an approved retrofit solution. During this grace period, these vehicle owners will not need to pay the LEZ daily charge if driving in the zone. Vehicle owners planning to use the grace period need to notify TfL.
