FORS Silver member, W H Bowker, has announced a considerable investment in fleet safety with the purchase of a number of new highly-equipped vehicles.
The latest Volvo FM rigids to join the 120-strong fleet are equipped with additional, lowered nearside windows which help to improve visibility and therefore reduce possible collisions. The fleet also includes thirteen FH-500 tractor units which are equipped as standard with AEBS, Forward Collision Warning and Lane Keeping System (LKS) as part of the General Safety Regulations that were introduced in 2015.
W H Bowker Director Bill Bowker explained that the drivers’ direct vision on the near side of the new FM rigids, “has been further improved by the addition of a lower window in the passenger door which, together with the redesigned mirror housings on this latest generation of FMs, helps reduce nearside blind spots.”
The company, based in Lancashire, has been running since 1919 when William Bowker used his war gratuity to buy the first vehicle. The company now has centres around the UK, operating 120 vehicles, 350 trailers and providing warehousing at their UK sites.
