Although Oliver Connell sadly passed\u00a0 away in 2020 the Connell name remains synonymous with the business, as four Connell\u00a0 family members are still directors of the company.<\/p>\n<p>My name is Nadarajah Gajendran and it is my responsibility to oversee the transport\u00a0 operation. We operate a variety of Heavy Goods Vehicles, including a low loader and HIAB\u00a0 vehicles, to service our own construction projects.<\/p>\n<p>We initially heard about the FORS\u00a0standard following discussions with\u00a0clients and industry contacts. The\u00a0company felt it important to raise its\u00a0profile, image and standards so set\u00a0about aligning its policies and\u00a0procedures with those of the FORS\u00a0standard. Oliver Connell &amp; Son Ltd\u00a0have been FORS members since 2015\u00a0and has evolved with the standard in\u00a0that time. Operating in line with the\u00a0FORS Standard has seen the company\u00a0develop a positive culture of safety,\u00a0compliance, efficiency and environmental awareness.<\/p>\n<p>The initial bronze audit was passed at the first attempt although I have to admit it was a quite\u00a0 daunting experience having someone audit our operational procedures. The measures\u00a0 required were developed and with additional FORS guidance Oliver Connell &amp; Son Ltd were\u00a0 able to enhance systems in place and develop strategies for moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>Once Oliver Connell &amp; Son Ltd achieved Bronze accreditation we took advantage of the\u00a0 various FORS toolkits, driver training modules and other resources including PCN<br \/>\nmanagement. The company then set its sights even higher, quickly achieving and<br \/>\nmaintaining FORS Silver accreditation. By 2018 we were confident that with systems in<br \/>\nplace aligned with the knowledge gained from the FORS Standard we were in a position to\u00a0 gain FORS Gold accreditation.<\/p>\n<p>Oliver Connell &amp; Son Ltd has taken a pragmatic approach to its fleet renewal programme\u00a0 which has resulted in a tangible reduction in emission outputs. Using the FORS standard to\u00a0 assist the company in its procurement processes the company embarked upon a gradual<br \/>\nfleet renewal scheme to facilitate this.<\/p>\n<p>Oliver Connell &amp; Son Ltd has taken a pragmatic approach to its fleet renewal programme which has resulted in a tangible\u00a0 reduction in emission outputs. Using the FORS standard to assist the company in its\u00a0 procurement processes the company embarked upon a gradual fleet renewal scheme to facilitate this. In<br \/>\naddition, the operating centre is away from domestic dwellings, schools, hospitals and\u00a0 retail establishments. All vehicles are fitted with the latest noise abatement equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Due to the nature of our operations servicing various construction sites, modal shift would be impractical. The company do however assess different modes with clients at each site to determine practicality on a case-by-case basis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With fuel efficiency and the awareness of\u00a0vulnerable road users being very much to\u00a0the forefront of our vehicle specification\u00a0process, Oliver Connell &amp; Son Ltd are\u00a0extremely proud to be the first operator in\u00a0the country to take delivery of a Scania\u00a0L360 6&#215;2 Hybrid truck which has been\u00a0fitted with a Palfinger crane. The low entry\u00a0cab design also commands a best-in-class for Direct Vision Standard with a\u00a0rating of 5 stars. This shows our\u00a0commitment to being a safety driven and\u00a0environmentally friendly operator.<\/p>\n<p>Oliver Connell &amp; Son Ltd aim to encourage customers, suppliers and other companies from\u00a0 within the industry to take advantage of the benefits that FORS can bring, by advertising the\u00a0 brand wherever possible. Usually, the company would also be extremely active in the\u00a0 community, engaging with schools, colleges and regional events as a means of promoting\u00a0 both the road transport sector and FORS.
