FORS Professional Safe Driving – with immersive VR (7-hour)
Duration and delivery: 2 x 3.5-hour modules – in-class theory module plus an immersive VR experience
Highlights: Features realistic VR scenarios across all UK road types, vehicles, and vulnerable road-user perspectives, paired with interactive presentations
Ideal for: Operators seeking a practical immersive module without on-road logistics, risks or the need for drivers to ride a bike.
FORS Professional Safe Driving Essentials – with immersive VR (3.5-hour)
Duration and delivery: 1 x 3.5-hour module – combining traditional classroom theory module plus an immersive VR experience
Highlights: First FORS course to integrate VR and theory training in a single standalone 3.5-hour module, cutting training time by half
Ideal for: Operators needing efficient, time-effective training whilst still fully meets FORS Silver WRRR
FORS Professional Safe Driving – with on-cycle practical (7-hour)
Duration and delivery: 2 x 3.5-hour modules – in-class theory module plus an on‑road cycling practical module
Highlights: Gives drivers real-life experience of a vulnerable road-user’s perspective on busy roads
Ideal for: Operators and drivers preferring hands-on, on‑bike learning for enhanced empathy and hazard awareness
Why choose FORS Professional Safe Driving?
FORS Professional Safe Driving is a suite training option designed to help drivers reduce work-related road risk and improve the safety of vulnerable road users. It meets the mandatory Work-related Road Risk (WRRR) driver training requirement at FORS Silver, is aligned to the DVSA Driver CPC syllabus and applies to drivers of all vehicle types.
There are now three ways to complete the training, giving operators the choice of format that best fits their drivers and business.
The original Safe Driving course is delivered over 7 hours as two half-day modules. Drivers complete a theory session alongside either a practical on-cycle session or an immersive VR session. The on-cycle option provides first-hand experience of a vulnerable road user’s perspective in live traffic, while the VR option immerses drivers in realistic, risk-based scenarios without the need for on-road cycling.
For those needing a more time-efficient option, Safe Driving Essentials packs both the theory and VR elements into a single 3.5-hour module. This streamlined format delivers the same outcome in half the training time, making it easier to plan around operational demands.
Whichever route you choose, the learning outcomes remain consistent. By the end of the course, drivers will be able to:
- Explain the moral, legal and economic reasons for safe driving
- Apply defensive driving techniques to share the road safely
- Reduce risk across urban, rural and motorway environments
- Recognise how driver fitness, health, distraction and impairment impact safety
- Understand the vehicle technology and equipment that support safer driving
FORS Professional Safe Driving replaces the previous Safe Urban Driving (SUD) and Van Smart courses, offering a single, updated programme that reflects the realities of today’s road environment.
