Tideway

Tideway is the organisation delivering the Thames Tideway Tunnel, the 25 kilometre sewer tunnel needed to help tackle the millions of tonnes of untreated sewage that pollute the tidal River Thames in London every year. The main tunnel will run generally along the route of the river, from Acton in the west to Beckton in the east, and up to 66m deep. There are 24 construction sites along the route, which will connect to the tunnel and store and transfer the wastewater to Beckton for treatment. .

Construction is underway with a target date for completion of 2024, although there is an aspiration to finish the job up to two years earlier.

The tunnel is being built by three main works contracts joint ventures who are responsible for delivering the scheme over three geographical areas;

West Area: BAM Nuttall, Morgan Sindall and Balfour Beatty Group

Central Area: Ferrovial Agroman UK and Laing O’Rourke Construction

East Area: Costain, Vinci Construction Grands Projets and Bachy Soletanche

A Systems Integrator contract has also been awarded to Amey.

Tideway are transporting the vast majority of excavated material and aggregates by river and are undertaking to do more by river. There remains however a significant number of vehicle movements that will be needed to deliver and collect from Tideway’s 24 main work sites, 11 of which have no direct river access.

Tideway is passionate about transformational health and safety and treats work-related road risk the same way it does any other risk associated with the works. Tideway are working with the industry,  its Main Works Contractors and the supply chain, to explore opportunities for using HGVs that have better direct vision, such as glass-panelled near-side doors, and Low Entry Cabs.

Tideway is a CLOCS Champion and has applied and enhanced the work-related road risk clauses, including the requirement for its contractors and suppliers to be FORS members.

Express Concrete Ltd are a newly founded company. It is a creation of Mr Derek Casey, former co founder of London Concrete. Derek Casey, along with the support of Cappagh Group of Companies will open the first Express Concrete depot in Ripple Road, Barking in the middle of May 2017. There will be a base fleet of 10 owner/operators who will all be FORS Accredited to Bronze Standard, with a view to becoming Silver Accredited by June 2018. All of the owner/operators will have vehicles fitted with the latest safety camera technology including a 6 camera recording system, side scan sensors, in cab camera. All drivers will undergo periodic training and in addition to this will log onto the FORS website and carry out the on line E Learning.

Fulcrum is designed around FORS. Fulcrum checks that the vehicle making the delivery is operated by an accredited supplier. Only suppliers with appropriate accreditation will be permitted to make a delivery to the site. Suppliers that do not meet the minimum site requirements can still be involved via the use of consolidation centres, where one of the Wilson James Gold Standard consolidated delivery vehicles will make the onward delivery on their behalf.

Donseed Ltd

Donseed provide Delivery Management Software for both suppliers and site managers to book, manage and record deliveries across multiple sites. The cloud-based software allows a firm's supply chain to log into an online system where they can book and manage deliveries to multiple sites across their portfolio. In addition, project details such as which equipment is available at specific delivery gates allows companies and suppliers to efficiently self-manage and co-ordinate deliveries in one place. The software has been designed to facilitate the efficient and safe off-loading of materials from the agreed arrival time right through to the equipment needed to move it to its final location on site. Once a delivery request is made by one of your suppliers, the system will automatically send you an email and reserve a diary slot. You can then accept, edit or reject any of these requests, allowing you to carefully plan, co-ordinate and report on all site-based logistics.
