FORS is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, a global event that highlights the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
This year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action’, calls on individuals and organisations to take meaningful steps toward gender equality, one of the greatest human rights challenges of our time.
The transport industry has traditionally been male-dominated, but positive change is underway. We encourage all FORS operators to invest in the professional development of their female employees and foster a more inclusive and equitable workplace.
At FORS, we are committed to championing the voices of women in transport and supporting those striving for leadership roles. To mark this year’s International Women’s Day, we spoke to three inspiring women who are breaking down barriers and driving progress across the industry.
Alice Busnati, FORS training manager
Nearly 10 years at FORS, advocate for women’s leadership
How has FORS helped accelerate your career?
I started at FORS as a temporary marketing coordinator in 2015. A few months later, I secured a permanent role, progressed to marketing and events executive and later transitioned into the training team, where I became manager.
Through Sopra Steria’s Women in Leadership programme, I have developed invaluable skills in managing people and driving engagement within the company.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in transport?
Being heard in a male-dominated sector has been a challenge. I have had to push hard to ensure my voice is recognised and respected.
What does ‘Accelerate Action’ mean to you?
It should be a priority for everyone, not just a slogan for women.
Why do we need more women in leadership?
Women bring a different perspective, greater empathy and a unique approach to problem-solving. Increasing female representation in leadership can drive positive change.
Yasmine Packman-Barlow, FORS training coordinator and advanced practitioner
Four years in the transport industry, passionate about road safety
How has FORS supported your professional growth?
I had the opportunity to join Sopra Steria’s Ignite programme in 2024. It pushed me beyond my comfort zone and equipped me with skills to advance my career.
What challenges have you faced as a woman in the workforce?
Ensuring my voice is heard and my contributions are recognised has been a key challenge. I have also encountered situations where people tried to influence decisions or persuade me to bend the rules.
What progress have you seen in gender equality?
It is encouraging to see more women stepping into key roles within transport. There is still work to be done, but positive change is happening.
What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in transport?
Go for it. It is a rewarding industry where you can truly make a difference. Stepping outside your comfort zone is where real growth happens.
Why do we need more women in leadership?
Female leaders challenge stereotypes and inspire other women to push forward in their careers.
Samantha McBride, compliance officer at AdComms
12 years in the transport industry, advocate for workplace inclusivity
FORS practitioner and compliance officer at FORS Accredited AdComms
Has your workplace helped accelerate your career?
Yes. When I changed roles, my employer funded training to expand my knowledge of fleet management and FORS. My manager, Gemma Smithson, has been a great mentor and has encouraged my growth every step of the way.
What progress have you seen in gender equality?
I have noticed more women entering transport roles and I have personally felt accepted and supported. However, it remains a male-dominated field.
What does ‘Accelerate Action’ mean to you?
It is about empowering women to speak up, stand by their beliefs and ensure their voices are heard.
Why do we need more women in leadership?
Diversity in leadership fosters a culture of inclusivity and creates workplaces where different perspectives are valued.
Driving change together
While progress has been made, there is still work to do. This International Women’s Day, we encourage everyone in the industry to take action and support women in transport.
Whether it is through mentorship, leadership opportunities or professional development, we all have a role to play in empowering the next generation of women in transport. With continued action, we can create a future where the industry is no longer seen as male-dominated, but simply inclusive for all.
