Maltaward Barriers Ltd – A Golden Company

My name is Jim Treacy General Manager at Maltaward Barriers Ltd. We are a Civil Engineering, Barrier and Security Contractor operating across the U.K. providing a wide range of construction services to the Public and Private sectors offering a fast and reliable solution to clients.

We had already heard of FORS, but it was suggested that we gain the entry level as a minimum requirement by one of our main clients, we acted quickly to start preparing for the Bronze Audit and have not looked back since.

We as a company always prepare thoroughly for any accreditation, but when we studied FORS we were surprised at the depth of the audit and worked hard to prepare. We passed the audit and quickly realised what had to be done to maintain it.

Soon after gaining our new accreditation we were structured and methodical in protecting after quickly realising the importance of it to our business. We did promote the scheme and ensured that our customer list was contacted.

Jim Treacy said, ” We acted quickly to prepare for the Bronze audit.”

As a FORS member we utilised the Elearning, Driver CPC and various Toolbox Talks that were made available to us. Straight away we had the buy in from the drivers who welcomed the professional development.

Jim Treacy also said,  “Straight away we had the buy in from our drivers”.

We knew the service we offered meant we could charge a premium, having FORS concreted that thought and pushed us to progress to Silver in 2016 then Gold in 2017. Straight away we had more business and that business was the sort that we excel in, our business went up a gear and we have not looked back.

We concentrate heavily on the fuel economy and reduction of our environmental impact and the figures we have complied certainly prove our efforts have worked. Our KPI monitoring allows us to react immediately and to congratulate our drivers on their continued efforts in this vital area.

  • The work we do is physical so regular driver health surveillance and a compliant induction for all our staff is key to our success. Our handbooks all contain vital information on the ways they can be healthy and to fit this into daily workloads.
  • We are proud of the fact that our driver turnover has been minimal and retention very high. We invest in our staff and ensure any required qualification is acquired. New staff come to us, we rarely need to advertise and we are very lucky to have this reputation. One that we cherish.
  • PPE is key to our operation, we carry out Noise Assessments at each job ensuring the drivers, customers and public is protected by being aware of the dangers. The Lorry Mounted Forklifts we operate all fall within the guidelines, but we still ensure driver safety.
  • We are keeping a keen eye on Volvos development hoping that when the fleet age there is a suitable replacement for the diesel engine. Moreover, we aim to reduce miles on the road by compliant planning unfortunately there is no modal alternative right now.

Our company ethos is to progress, develop and find ways to protect the environment. With Euro7 engines on the horizon we are aiming on being one of the first to start making a difference. We have systems in place to ensure our damage to the environment is minimal and will continue to develop.

Retaining our Gold will allow us to continue being set a level above the rest, continue with all our high-profile clients, carry on providing a service second to none and progress with our adventurous business plan into the next decade. Our team is well trained qualified, worthy of continuing at this level and looking forward to the challenge.
